About Immediate Dental Implantology
Immediate loading dental implantology is a new technique that allows certain types of situations to have the teeth removed and implants and its prosthetic structure placed in one day. This technique requires advanced knowledge and expertise in implant dentistry, surgery and prosthdontics.
There are also various situations that can pose a problem to immediate loading. Most of the time, immediate implant loading is only done for fixed mandibular artial denture, mandibular overdentures, single tooth implants in the anteriors and maxillary and mandibular fixed bridgework in the anteriors.
Immediate loading implants require an interdisciplnary approach. Teamwork is important to achieve satifactory results in success rates, function, and esthetics.
The main goal in immediate loading dental implants is to obtain primary stability of implants. This is necessary to achieve osseointegration. Good bone quality is important; bone that may withstand at least 32 N/cm for implant placement. Bone quantity is also a requirement to allow the placement of implants that are at least 10 mm long.
For a prosthodontist, the goal is to achieve optimum occlusal rehabilitation. Another goal is to splint the implants with a provisional prosthesis that will not allow for flexural forces endanger the splinting. Distal cantilevers must also be avoided. The prosthodontist should be present during the implant surgery to guide the surgical placement and adapt the temporary restoration after implantation.
